About the event

The 5th Annual CHALKFEST, sponsored by the Willoughby Arts Collaborative was held on Saturday August 9, 2025, 10:00 AM -3:00 PM in Downtown Willoughby. This event was part of LAST STOP WILLOUGHBY. The Fest kicked off with a parade through downtown Willoughby. Did you see our two colorful stilt walkers?

This year’s Chalkfest featured an internationally known Chalk Artist, David Zinn from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mr Zinn has created original artworks which have appeared on the sidewalks of Michigan, subway platforms in Manhatten, village squares in Sweden and street corners in Taiwan. The public also enjoyed watching local artists as they chalked downtown Willoughby buildings and sidewalks. Local artists, many who are students or graduates from the Cleveland Institute of Art, created original chalk art on the side of buildings or on a sidewalk. The participants competed for 1st , 2nd and 3rd place.

Jurors will decide the winners with prize money being awarded. This year’s theme is Line and Color – two of the fundamental Elements of Art. This year’s judging criteria will be: Composition – Use of Color – Originality – Execution. The 1st place winner will be offered the opportunity to return for the 6th Annual Chalkfest as a featured Chalkfest artist with a stipend. Interested artists may visit our website, https://www.willoughbyartscollaborative.org/cfa/chalkfest-2025 to register. There will be no adult artist registration the day of the Chalkfest.

Children Category: Children 15 yrs and under may participate for 1st , 2nd and 3rd place. Registration can be the date of the event by registering at the Willoughby Arts Collaborative booth (outside of the Chamber office at 28 Public Square, Willoughby). Jurors will decide the winners with prize money being awarded. All participating children will receive an art supply pack.

Hands on Workshop: Mr Zinn also hosted a workshop from 3:30-5:00 next to the Masonic Temple on 40 Public Square, Willoughby.
