Call for Art:
2026 Utility Box Beautification Program in Willoughby
The Willoughby Arts Collaborative is excited to announce this year's call for all artists to participate in beautifying the utility boxes in Willoughby. This is an excellent opportunity for local artists to showcase their creativity and help us make Willoughby an even more beautiful place to live and work!
We are seeking original designs submitted in 2D medium. Artwork submitted must be in a high-quality JPEG format with a minimum of 5000 pixels in the smallest dimension.
Designs should be a horizontal/landscape format. This is a juried competition and a stipend of $100 will be awarded to the artist for each piece of artwork selected. The selected artwork will be printed on vinyl and installed on utility boxes in each Ward by a third party vendor.
WAC will reserve rights to use the images on the boxes and for marketing/nonprofit advertising but the artist will retain ownership of the intellectual property.
Estimated Timeline:
Application Deadline: May 1, 2026; Artists selected and notified by: June 1, 2026
Artist Guidelines:
Larger, bold and impactful images are preferred.
Suggested Themes:

One selected box will be Police related for box near new police station

One selected box will be Fire Department related for the box near fire station.

No more boxes predominantly of Flowers will be selected

Nature - plants and animals native to our area

Natural and artificial features in our community

Community - a sense of unity and connection

Themes not listed are also allowed so long as they are family friendly.
Artwork must NOT contain: Political statements or persons, Offensive or obscene references or imagery, Religious references. Must be family-friendly content.
AI Policy: You must submit your own work only, and the submission will require the artist to verify that they created the submission personally and without use of AI.
Images that can be easily displayed on all four sides of the box are preferred.

The boxes are generally 4-5 feet high and are usually a 2:1 ratio (side/side) and 4:1 ratio (front/back).
